Top Ten Tuesday: From Book to Screen

This week's theme was to pick 10 movies based off of books that we are excited for. Instead, we decided to talk about our favorite book adaptations that have already been released.

They cast the perfect people. Especially the Russian hottie!

I decided to make mine a list of movies that are better than their book counterparts!
I watched the movie before reading the book, and while the book was good, Hugh Dancy is really hard to top!

OK, OK. It's hard to say that the movies are better than the book here. The book is good, and tons of Austen fans would burn me alive for suggesting otherwise. I think it's just a visual thing for me here. I really love watching this story so much more than reading it. And really, I love all of the Pride and Prejudice adaptations, but this one was my first! And Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen were just absolute Lizzie/Darcy perfection. Now I have to go rewatch it.

Another case of watching the movie before the book, and again, while the book is good, the movie is just sheer perfection. It's really hard to top!

This movie had a young Detective Greggson as the sexy Inspector Hallet with the impossibly hot blue and green eyes. The book didn't stand a chance.

I have mentioned before that I didn't have great feelings toward Stadust as a book. However, Stardust the movie was just amazing. Who can forget Robert De Niro dancing around his cabin dressed in drag? Just amazing.
If we are choosing all-time favorite books, Little Women is at the top of that list. So it really doesn't fit with the theme of books being better than the movie. However, while I absolutely adore the book, I have so many amazing memories of staying up late to watch the Little Women movies at my Nana's house growing up. All of them are good (yes, even the Winona Rider version), but the June Allyson version will always have a special place in my heart. Maybe because her last name was spelled the same as mine, which almost never happens, and maybe cause it was my Nana's favorite. But Allyson's Jo was just so good, Hepburn, Dey, Rider, and Down just can't hope to beat her. Also, screw Lifetime for naming their show about little people Little Women. I get excited every time I go home to my mom's and see it on the TV Guide.

  4. Yet to read Pride and Prejudice but I've only heard great things about it! Wasn't the biggest fan of the City of Bones movie. It didn't do justice to Cassie's brilliant work. :( Love the structure of your list and the typography though!
Ps- you complimented my header but yours is the best blog header I've ever seen :O ❤

    1. I blame it on Matthew MacFadyen. He was such a perfect Darcy, he had a huge influence on my impressionable heart :p

  8. The Princess Bride is my all-time favourite movie! Like you I watched it before reading the book but I was really little at the time. It holds so many great memories of staying at my grannies.

I also really liked I Am Number Four and I don't understand why you hardly see it anywhere! The Hunger Games and Stardust are also great movies (though I haven't read Stardust yet).

    Thanks for visiting me.

  10. Had no idea Practical Magic was a book until just now! Although I've seen bits and pieces, the movie has been on my to-watch list for some time. I surprisingly enjoyed the movie for I Am Number Four mostly because I had zero expectations when I saw it - I'd gotten a free ticket to see the movie so I just showed up without having read anything about it prior.Happy Reading (and movie watching!)
