Top Ten Tuesday: Unread Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
This week's theme had to do with listing book bloggers that we follow on social media, or that we really, really love. Unfortunately, neither of us are really big into the blogging scene, so we decided to change this up a bit. This week, we are listing books that we have had on our shelves forever, but we still haven't managed to read.
Like most of you, I have a pretty serious addiction to buying books. However, I have been through a MASSIVE slump over the past 3 or 4 years, and haven't actually read much of anything. So, while I own somewhere in the ballpark of about 3,000 books, I have only read about two-thirds of them. That being said, this theme was impossibly easy for me, and could have been insanely long! So instead, I decided to be more specific and make a list of series for which I own every single book, and yet still haven't read them.
These were so ridiculously cheap at Half Price Books when I came across them. I think they were $2 a book, so I it was impossible to pass up, even though I hadn't heard anything about them that would warrant buying the whole set before reading the first book. I even actually already owned the different cover version of the first book, but that one quickly found a home with one of my book club girls.

Out of all of the books on this list, this series has probably sat there the longest. I always intend to start it, but then something shiny catches my eye, and I forget all about them.

Really, I am a sucker for YA fantasy, so when I came across The Poison Throne at HPB, I had to have it. And then, without even reading what the book was about, I bought the second and third one on Amazon. And so they have sat on my shelf, waiting patiently for me.

This is another series that I bought without knowing anything about them, or even reading the back. I loved the cover to Blackwatch, and so I impulse purchased it. But then I got it home and realized it wasn't the first book! One quick Amazon browse later, and I fixed that problem.

This one is kind of cheating, as I have read about half of Shatter Me, and really hated it. I don't think I will ever read these books, and yet I love the covers way too much to part with them.

  2. Hey Allyson! I'm with you - I've read Shatter Me, and while I thought the writing itself was REALLY impressive, the story just didn't really work for me? I feel like a total snob saying that, but I guess I just didn't get it. So I've never gone further with the series either.
I did just finish Rebel by R J Anderson and really loved the first book in the series, Knife! They were really quick reads, too. Mariela - hope you get to read them soon. :)

  3. I loved Shatter me. It got on my nerves on the beginning but I liked the series a lot.
I love the covers of Poison Throne.

  4. Book cover pretty! Totally understand why you bought many of these - love the little fairies in Knife and sequels and the covers for Shadowcry and the sequels.

I've been having the same problem - buying books without reading them. Though luckily not as bad as somehow I've managed to only use the library for most of my life, hahah. But in the last year, I've bought a half dozen books from Half Price Book Store that I need to read.

  6. Fun topic! I don't have the "Shatter Me" books on my shelf but I have toyed with the idea of reading them. However I've read some not-so-complimentary things about the series lately, so I'm in no rush. :)

  7. I haven't actually read any of the books on this list either. I have Cinda Williams Chima's Seven Realms series sitting on my shelf waiting to be discovered. Happy reading!!
