Top Ten Tuesday: Book Wishlists

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic asked us to come up with our Top Ten Reading Wishlist items.

I decided to just go with 5 books off my of my wishlist that I hope to get soon.

In this stunning debut, author Scott Lynch delivers the wonderfully thrilling tale of an audacious criminal and his band of confidence tricksters. Set in a fantastic city pulsing with the lives of decadent nobles and daring thieves, here is a story of adventure, loyalty, and survival that is one part "Robin Hood", one part Ocean's Eleven, and entirely enthralling...

An orphan's life is harsh — and often short — in the island city of Camorr, built on the ruins of a mysterious alien race. But born with a quick wit and a gift for thieving, Locke Lamora has dodged both death and slavery, only to fall into the hands of an eyeless priest known as Chains — a man who is neither blind nor a priest.

A con artist of extraordinary talent, Chains passes his skills on to his carefully selected "family" of orphans — a group known as the Gentlemen Bastards. Under his tutelage, Locke grows to lead the Bastards, delightedly pulling off one outrageous confidence game after another. Soon he is infamous as the Thorn of Camorr, and no wealthy noble is safe from his sting.

Passing themselves off as petty thieves, the brilliant Locke and his tightly knit band of light-fingered brothers have fooled even the criminal underworld's most feared ruler, Capa Barsavi. But there is someone in the shadows more powerful — and more ambitious — than Locke has yet imagined.

Known as the Gray King, he is slowly killing Capa Barsavi's most trusted men — and using Locke as a pawn in his plot to take control of Camorr's underworld. With a bloody coup under way threatening to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the Gray King at his own brutal game — or die trying...

We're waiting for you to come and play. Dunvegan School for Girls has been closed for many years. Converted into a family home, the teachers and students are long gone. But they left something behind...Sophie arrives at the old schoolhouse to spend the summer with her cousins. Brooding Cameron with his scarred hand, strange Lilias with a fear of bones and Piper, who seems just a bit too good to be true. And then there's her other cousin. The girl with a room full of antique dolls. The girl that shouldn't be there. The girl that died.

Most teens hate school, but thirteen-year-old Faye has good reason to: Her teacher is trying to kill her. Swallowing her fears, she marches past the scattered bones of unsuccessful students and battles through a maze of deadly spells. Faye survives, only to be greeted by fireballs and curses from Stonereader, her instructor. So much for becoming teacher's pet.

Such is the life of a half-breed, ostracized by both human and Fey society. When her magical team assembles to help her, they are not what Faye expects: a talking rock, a dog with unusual skills, and a sword that continually attacks the most handsome prince she's ever seen. Awkward!

With only a band of misfits to save her from the teacher who's determined to destroy her, she should give up, as Stonereader wants. But Faye has a dream worth dying for: to bring a lasting peace between humans and Fey.

“Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

From the author of the bestselling Wayward Pines trilogy, Dark Matter is a brilliantly plotted tale that is at once sweeping and intimate, mind-bendingly strange and profoundly human—a relentlessly surprising science-fiction thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we’ll go to claim the lives we dream of.

Amy Lennox doesn't know quite what to expect when she and her mother pick up and leave Germany for Scotland, heading to her mother's childhood home of Lennox House on the island of Stormsay.

Amy's grandmother, Lady Mairead, insists that Amy must read while she resides at Lennox House—but not in the usual way. It turns out that Amy is a book jumper, able to leap into a story and interact with the world inside. As thrilling as Amy's new power is, it also brings danger: someone is stealing from the books she visits, and that person may be after her life. Teaming up with fellow book jumper Will, Amy vows to get to the bottom of the thefts—at whatever cost.

I decided to go with 5 authors who are on my "wish they would hurry up and write another book already" list. These authors have taken far too long to give me something new.

It has been since 2011 that Tamora Pierce has given us a book in the Tortall universe, and it was the last book in the Beka Cooper series. I know that she is working on Numair's early years, and honestly I am not super duper stoked for that, because Numair without Daine and Numair dating that awful party planner in Carthak is not a place I care to go to. But honestly, I'd kill for them to come out now, just so that we can get closer to Maura's books, which I am super duper stoked for! And really, 6 years is a really long time to go without more Tortall in your life.
2012 was the last time Victoria Hanley had a book released. I am not even really sure if she is still writing any more, but I would love to have another fantasy by her come out some time soon!
Julia Golding has had books come out as recently as last year, but everything she has written over the past few years has been in Middle Grade and genres I don't read. I'd kill for her to do another companion to Dragonfly and Glass Swallow.
Jennifer Crusie hasn't given me anything new since 2010's Maybe This Time! She has been re-releasing old short stories and short novels, but since I've already read everything by her, this does nothing for me. I'm not sure what's going on with her, it must be something pretty serious to make us wait this long for something new. But she is pretty high on my wishlist of dying for something new by her.
Have you heard of this series? If you are a fan of fantasy, you absolutely have to check it out! I love it to pieces. My mother, who is not a huge fantasy fan, recently listened to the audiobook and fell in love with it. But Darkfall came out in 2011, and with the end of the trilogy, Janice Hardy hasn't written anything new for me to consume and that bums me out hard.
