OMG! This book = so many emotions. I just could not stop
crying towards the end. All I could think was my two daughters and my
mom, I guess because of Elena, Jonas and Lina.
These group of people found a family in each other, it comforted me that at least they had one another to find help when they needed it.
I just can not understand so much evil in this world. How did this even happen?
When I think about WWII what it comes to my head is Hitler and the Holocaust, that is it. I knew that Stalin was not good but I never heard of this Soviet deportation. This dude was a different kind but same level of evil than Hitler. While reading this book I wanted to learn more about this part of history, that in my own opinion, is barely told so I was watching videos on youtube about it and reading stuff on the internet, he killed over 20 million innocents from starvation, executions, people freezing to death , diseases.
Just thinking of all the people that have died, the way they died, in this book is making me cry again.
This book left me speechless.

I have heard so many things about this book but I've only read her newer book - Salt to the Sea, which was spectacular. I have to get to this one as I've discovered that I love her writing style.
