Since Allyson is on vacation, and she is the one that does the TTT, we decided not to do it. She makes it looks so pretty all the time :) so it would not be the same without her working on it. But since I really wanted to make a post about my yellow bookcase and this week's TTT is kind of a freebie, I am going to use this post as our blog's TTT.
My house has been a mess with only 2 bookcases, they are kind of large but still not big enough to hold the books that I have, which would be 728 of them. Yes, I counted them :P Anyway, I've been wanting to get nice bookcases, but I am not the kind of person that buys something just because they need it. Of course, it depends of what it is, but in the case of bookcases I would much rather wait until I find something I really like and I am completely happy with. So, I was on the mission of finding something I really loved. But I searched online and looked in furniture stores, and I have not found anything that I loved, because I need to fall in love with my bookcases since they are going to be holding my babies forever right in front of me, everyday. I needed something that makes me happy.
My husband suggested to get something from Ikea, but we don't have an Ikea near our home. We could have ordered it online but I just wasn't that in love with any of them. So I was like whatever I am going to wait until I find that bookcase that takes my breath away. Then I thought, wait a minute! I have this big china cabinet in my basement all the time that I could use to make a bookcase. So I searched on Pinterest for ideas (yes, I use Pinterest a lot to look for ideas) and since I love working on projects like this I started to work on my bookcase. And I love it so much now! It does need a little handle for one of the drawers, but I can not find anything that fits yet.
Here are some pictures of my project.

This is a picture of my bookcases before I got to work on my project. |
|
My babies out of their nest , some waiting for mommy to finish their new home and some will stay in the same old ones. |
|
Now to drag this heavy cabinet out of the basement. |
|
|
I took the doors and everything else off. |
|
Put the primer on first. |
|
Then painted it. |
|
It is almost done. It is going to the other wall where the other bookcases were... |
|
The other bookcases are all already set. |
|

Finally here is my beautiful yellow bookcase( It was meant to be a mustard color) but I love it!
Still needs a handle for the drawer and I need to get tome led lights for inside. By the way... notice that the top shelf is only for my Outlander books! I even have a bottle of whiskey there!

Great post. It's nice to see how you transformed that cabinet into a new bookshelf and the room looks great. Enjoy your new bookshelf!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's gorgeous! I've been hunting for some kind of bookcase for all my mass market paperbacks. They are so small, that they get a little lost on regular shelves.
ReplyDeleteI have one small bookcase for all my mass market paperbacks, and they get lost there anyway!
DeleteThat is a lot of books! I'm also loving some of these shelves :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Not as much as Allyson ( my friend and co-blogger) I believe she has over 3,000 books hahaha
DeleteThanks for stopping!
The bookshelf looks lovely you have so many books!! I don't have nearly as many as you, but I do love my collection that's now all in storage back in Aus (I just moved to the uk). I miss them! Can't wait to put together bookshelves of my own one day
ReplyDeleteYou moved back to the UK and you could not take your books with you? Were they too many and too heavy to take with you? This makes me so sad for you. Because I could not live without my books.
DeleteSo gorgeous! My books are um...in various places around my rather impossibly small apartment. A few boxes, lots of random shelves. a couple of nightstands. haha.
ReplyDeleteI live in a small townhouse. MY dream is to build shelves on that big wall where the TV is.
DeleteNext week I will be building more shelves in a very small corner.
Thanks or stopping!
Oooo,nicely done bookcases!!
ReplyDeletePinterest is really great for inspiration! It looks like your project turned out really well, it's great that you were able to give an old piece new life (and what better purpose than a bookshelf really?)
ReplyDeleteI love it...very nice, including the whiskey bottle.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this! Yellow is my favorite colour, and I love seeing other people's bookshelf, so this post was so fun to read!:D Definitely shelf goal for when i get my own place!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the project! Looks awesome. And love the pic of all the books on the floor... :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Greg!

ReplyDeleteLove your old/new cabinet/bookcase. Looks like it took quite a bit of effort, but the outcome looks like it was worth your while!
